With the Dragons almost assured of being in the new league next year and our deal at Hisense coming to an end, the question must be asked. Do we stay at Hisense or go to a different stadium?

i would like to see us stay at hisense if we can make a profit otherwise we will just go broke like every other team i have gone for (giants, titans, giants, giants). the derbies are awesome there and i mean if u can fill a stadium like that u should do it but its just the smaller games which are problems. an ideal stadium would be about 6ooo people i reckon but i dont know of one

Site OwnerPosts: 63 | I think that we should stay at Hisense but even play our home game derbies at Rod LAver! I know that Dandenong holds 5,000 but i think that stadium is really amatuerish. Hopefully next year and beyond we can get close to filling Hisense!!!!

ROD laver is the way to go for the derbies and yeah i surpose that the only option that we have left is Hisense. I hope that the Dragons try and stop the Tigers moving into hIsense as it is our ground and they can stay and play at the NETBALL and HOCKEY centre.lol

Would we make a profit if we had on average 5-6000 a game at Hisense, next year with all the promotion supposedly happening to boost numbers.

Weel i think we would if we got 6,000 definetly but not sure about 5,000 that might be break even. So far we have made some substantial losses haven't we? does anyone know how much?

Hisense is a good arena it doesnt cost that much and Netball Oz chips in for the court,Msac is too small and the onluy other alternative is Dandenong i say...

Well it would be intersting to know exactly what crowd we need to break even. It would give us a better understanding of how well we are going off ther court this season. I know that they lost a million in their first season, does anyone know what they lost last year? Anyway i think if we were to get 6,000 to everygame then we would make a profit. If hisense doesn't costy to much like you are saying then, 5,000 is probably break even point.

I think roughly it would take 4,500 to breakeven and anything over that would be profit. however it is hard to estimate the real crowds as Cowan is giving away free tickets to youth clubs so that inflates the crowds with no revenue. However i do thinkn that it is a reaslly good idea, and if i were him i would do it more often and give away more seats.

what other stadium is there? who wants to go all the way out to dandenong? Hisesne is in such a good spot because it is easy for people all around melbourne to get to. but saying that the dragons really do need to get more people to the games if we are to keep playing at hisesnse. even though the crouds have been fairly good this year we still cant keep going like this. if we can average about 4500-5000 ithink we will be fine.

This thread has now become relevant again! Especially with Cowan saying that it was a viable option for games next season! I do not want to play games there unless somethings are addressed like the size of the venue! Getting 2,000 to a game of bball is not what image we want to sell when we go into next year with a relaunched brand! It is too small for any professional compettion! If we could expand it somehow to 3,500 or 4,000 then it would be great because there is plenty of parking, the atmosphere is amazing and we would have to seem desperate by playing at the CAGE!! It would mean that we would really have two home courts!
My ohter issue is that there is no real lighting like there is at Hisnese which mean we cant do our intro and i think that one enterance is not really ideal meaning that you have to walk on the court when you want ot exit or enter the arena!!
I thinkt that we could get support form the govt and msac, especially msac if we commited say 6 game there a year! So if we could expand the capacity then it would be great but at the moment it is too small for a club claiming to be the evolution of Basketball in Australia!
either way i love the Dragons and would support them at any stadium they choose to play at!

The main issue is the size of the stadium! It would be bad in my opinion to be downgrading whenthe league is trying to expand! if we could extend the capacity abit it would be ideal as we have the capacity to host the big games as well as the small games! I'm sure msac would approve as the last professional sporting game at that venue was when the Victorian Giants played there! If they can make the place bigger than it would be great and have a great atmosphere really intimidating place to play bball!!

yeah yeah i agree also, but i do think msac is great when it is packed full like it was on sat night. I suppose it is the big question at the moment though - i know they are desperately trying to solve the issue of where to play next year. Problem is (as most of you would know) Hisense is too expensive even after they lowered costs this year, and everywhere else is either too far away or too small. It hurts my head just thinking about it haha

MSAC packed to the rafters , Crowd like Sat. night, Sell TV rights and get Government imput or business ?? to build 5000 or 6000 stadium where of course is the question The Public and papers have to be shown that it is a good sport . Too many jobs rely on football ., so we join a Basketball club to a football club . I would not like MSAC long term but maybe a year or 2 with people wanting to come and not being able too may turn the tables. Lets Hope. Best game I have seen in Years up to the Tigers V Magic of old. and One or 2 of Adelaides.

I agree with most you have said Heather my only problem is that we average crowds of around 4,500! To then go to MSAC with 2,000 is not good as we r sort of sending away the loyal ones! I think that we have to give Hisense a go for one more year then if crowds do not pick up and we are averaging like 6,000 then look at another stadium!

I agree with that! On sat night there was 1994 that is surpose to be capacity! They did how ever have seats that had to be used for the Dragons flys ect so it may be right!
