Save Our South Dragons

I just wanted to thank Mark Cowan for all the joy that the South Dragons have given to me over the past three years. Mark Cowan took a huge risk in putting together a new team after the embarrassing Victorian Giants. MC has and always will been passionate about basketball and his club, it was not like some people an attempt to futher his resume, evidence of this was his press conference when he needed to take a break as emotion got the best of him. It is reported that the Dragons had lost 9 million in three years, that is basically a 5 million dollar loss for Cowan, yet he still wanted to stick with it, and would of if it wasnt for Germinder pulling his funding.

Cowan ensured that the Dragons did everything right, whether it was playing at Hisense to ensure that basketball could be taken seriously, doing a NBA style intro, or having real entertainment instead of musical chairs, or getting the right players and the right coach. He is also made the players very available to all fans and the organisation was always well run and professional. One of the most important things is that they marketed the games, and it was a huge achievement to take the license of the Giants who were getting around 1,200 to this season with finals included get around 5,000!!

The Dragons broguht me and many others to basketball full time, he ensured that everything was as it should be, professional. what ever the outcome is, at the very least the Dragons have raised the level of basketball and what should be expected on and off the court. Yes it was only short lived, three years was not long enough, this promised to be a relationship that was to last for ever. I hope that BA can get professional basketball back again at the top where it belongs, so that i can see the emergence of the South Dragons again and fall in love with basketball again.

To Mark Cowan thankyou , you invested so much money and time into this AMAZING organisation and your contributing has been enormous. Hopefully this isnt the end, and that one day the Dragons will rise again.

I just want to say that thanks to Mark Cowan, I fell in love with basketball again when he created the Dragons and I will miss them so very very much.

I am looking forward to the day they come back even bigger and better!
